Republicans Slash New Jersey Beach Replenishment Funding

Thanks to the Republican led Federal Appropriations Legislation $0 Federal dollars allocated in 2025 for beach nourishment along the Jersey Shore, including LBI.

  • Historically, Congress allocated $100million to $200 million annually, with NJ Shore projects regularly supported in that range.
  • The House Appropriations Committee has proposed continuing major cuts, approving just ~$60million for FY2026, far below past levels.

LBI-Specific Nourishment Efforts:

  • Current beach replenishment projects are being completed from previously awarded federal contract.  However, no new federal replenishment funds have been allocated beyond that contract for 2025 or FY2026 planning, making future nourishment dependent on local/state action and Congressional intervention.
